Development strategy

How we plan and drill a section determines how much gas is ultimately recovered — and what the asset is worth to the mineral owners and investors who share in it.

Cube development

Cube development vs. parent–child

Both panels show the same section of rock — two stacked benches, drilled from one surface pad, with the laterals running north. The difference is timing. Drill the section one well at a time and pressure around the first well drops, so wells drilled years later recover less. Drill the whole cube together and every well sees virgin pressure.

What it means for the unit

Cumulative asset value over time

Value accumulates from the moment gas reaches the sales line. Cube development brings the whole section on at once, so the unit ramps steeply and settles at a materially higher total. Parent–child ramps to a lower level, steps up again years later when the next wells come on, and still finishes below the cube.

Well geometry

We turn the lateral to fit the unit, not the other way around

Units in the Shelby Trough are rarely clean rectangles. Rather than shorten a lateral to keep it straight, we plan large turns downhole so a single wellbore follows the shape of the unit from south to north and stays inside every setback.

That is how we keep laterals long, hold spacing where we want it, and pay royalty on acreage a straight hole would strand.

Cost per foot

Among the longest laterals in the trough

Fixed costs — pad, vertical section, rig move, mobilization — spread across more productive footage. As lateral length goes up, cost per foot comes down, and every dollar taken out of cost per foot goes into the value of the asset for investors and the royalty life of the unit for landowners.

Zachary Henderson

Zach Henderson

Co-Founder · Chief Executive Officer

Zach Henderson is a third-generation oil and gas operator who developed a hands-on understanding of oilfield operations from an early age, working in the field well before beginning his formal engineering career. He has designed and executed hydraulic fracturing and completion programs across nearly every producing bench within the East Texas Basin and has worked on oil and gas projects internationally, including Norway and Indonesia.

Zach has led technical execution across the full oil and gas lifecycle, from leasing and acreage assembly through flowback, including assembling and managing the current Arenos Energy leasehold in the Haynesville. His technical work includes the design and development of autonomous downhole completion robotics used to materially increase fracture efficiency, as well as developing the mathematical framework for an exothermic, temperature-dependent solubility reaction used in acid fracturing to achieve extended etch lengths in carbonate reservoirs. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Cole Barron, P.E.

Cole Barron, P.E.

Co-Founder · Chief Operating Officer

Cole Barron brings deep operational leadership across complex drilling and development programs. He has planned and executed projects across the Haynesville, Permian, Utica, South Texas, Arkoma Basin, and offshore international assets.

Cole's experience includes serving as Drilling Manager at Trinity Operating, where he led development operations and supported acquisitions through technical and economic evaluation. Earlier in his career, he held technical roles at Southwestern Energy focused on Haynesville development and was a primary contributor to the deployment of thermally coated drillpipe. At SWN, he acted as a technical advisor to drive down well cost and maintain well deliverability in the Haynesville.

While working in the Utica, Cole served as lead drilling engineer and planned and executed the Rothenbuhler 4H, the longest onshore well drilled in North America at the time, with a 23,400' lateral. He began his career at Occidental Petroleum and later worked at ExxonMobil as lead drilling engineer aboard the Noble Tom Madden drillship, supporting offshore exploration and development in Guyana. He holds a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Texas.

The well was delivered under both time and cost estimates, validating the development design behind the four-well Red Gentry pad and the broader East Texas program.

Arenos Energy has reached total depth on the Red Gentry 1H, the first well of its inaugural Haynesville development program in East Texas.

Drilled to 26,335 feet with an approximate 12,300-foot lateral, the well ranks among the longest laterals to date in the Shelby Trough. It was spud on May 30 by Patterson 586 and finished ahead of schedule and below budget.

Delivering a well of this length at or below plan on a first attempt is the clearest early signal that a development design holds. Red Gentry 1H is the first of four on the pad, and the same design carries into the remaining three.

Completion operations are expected to follow, with further updates as results become available.

Patterson 586 spuds first well for Arenos Energy in the Haynesville

Drilling is underway on the Red Gentry pad in Nacogdoches County — a four-well program of approximately 12,500-foot laterals and the company’s first operated development.

Arenos Energy has spud the first well of its inaugural Haynesville development program, marking the company's move from leasehold assembly to operations.

Patterson 586 began drilling the Red Gentry 1H on May 30 in Nacogdoches County. Four wells are planned from the pad, each targeting the Haynesville and Bossier formations at roughly 12,500-foot laterals.

Concentrating four wells on one pad holds surface activity in a single location instead of spreading it across the acreage — less road, pipeline, and pad footprint — and increases operational efficiency. Mobilizing once and repeating a proven design drives down cost per foot with each successive well.

Developing the full section at once also serves the mineral owner. Drilling all four wells together drains the reservoir evenly and recovers the section's value on a single timeline, rather than producing part of it now and returning years later to drill alongside depleted rock — wells that come online late and, because the pressure around them has already been drawn down, recover less. Full development is the difference between realizing a section's value once, and realizing less of it twice.

The pad was laid out this way before the first bit turned, reflecting how the company approaches development planning: the decisions that govern recovery and cost get made early. Local contractors and service providers are being used across the program wherever practical.
